What is a Periodontist?

A Periodontist is a dental specialist who has successfully completed a 3-year residency program, after 4 years of dental school, focused on treating periodontal disease and the placement of dental implants.  In addition to formal surgical training, Dr. Laborde received a Masters Degree for the research that he performed as a resident.  He also received his board certification by the American Board of Periodontology after passing a rigorous series of written and oral examinations.   

 

Periodontists are specialized in diagnosing, treating, and preventing periodontal disease.  This is a form a of gum disease that affects the supporting tissues of the teeth including the gums and jawbone. In addition to providing care for patients with periodontal disease, periodontists are especially skilled in the following areas:
